Rest in peace, dear crochet hook

I've been crocheting the whole afternoon, trying to finish the baby blankie before I actually go into labor. My eyes hurt and the veins in my hands are practically bulging, but it was no big deal for me. Sadly, my bamboo crochet hook (which I made myself) decided to force me into resting by breaking. No, it did not break into two pieces (though my grip is somewhat tight). The hook itself broke off from the body, leaving me with an ordinary bamboo barbecue stick (which is what the thing was before I carved it into a hook). I have no idea what to do right now, I've only done about 1/4 of the granny squares needed for the blankie, and there are no large crochet hooks available.

I suppose I could always make a new one, but my main concern is accuracy. The second one should have the exact dimensions and hook size like the first one (since it was a makeshift crochet hook, I did not have the time to measure, but it is roughly 4mm me thinks).

Well, will sleep on it tonight. By tomorrow, I do hope to find a solution to this problem. I have a lot of projects queued up T_T

New Project Underway!

Just bought a load of Red Heart yarns because my boyfriend thought it would be a great idea to make a blankie for our baby. Though I haven't tried making something as big as a blanket, and though I know acrylic yarns (which are the only ones available) are not really suitable for baby stuff, I thought I'd give it a shot.

Here's a pic of the blanket he picked out. I changed the colors up a bit (we're not really fond of green) to make it more... baby-ish. ^_^

Hope I'll be able to do justice to the pattern. For baby!!! bwahahahha! Also, anybody knows how to make acrylic softer? Tried the fabric conditioner technique, worked a bit but not quite. Is there a way to enhance it, like soaking it in hot water? hmmm...

It's called the "Baby Checks Blanket" and the pattern can be found at: http://www.coatsandclark.com

Lots and Lots of Cotton Threads

I am so excited!!! I just got the shipment of Cannon Cotton Threads I ordered from Miss Mimi Alelis. Hahahaha. I ordered 12 and got 2 balls of thread for free! Been staring at the black/white multicolored one. Looks so cute, I don't know what to do with it!

In fact, my mind went blank when I saw all those balls of thread. I have no clue what to do. Seriously. I had a lot of projects in mind when I bought them, but now I'm just pretty overwhelmed. A part of me just wants to lie down and cuddle all those balls of yarn (yes, I'm crazy).

I am making a white shrug, that's for sure. I hope I finish it before I give birth so I could wear it for my last prenatal checkup and of course, for my son's baptism. ^_^

Another day, another blog

This is the nth blog that I have started and I am seriously running out of witty blog titles. Deleted four blogs which have been dormant for the past year and I am seriously considering making this my ONLY blog (since I can't remember the passwords of my other, severely neglected blogs).

I do hope that this time I'll work hard in updating this blog regularly to give everyone a glimpse into a life of a single mom who spends her day in front of the computer. I make my living online and I've recently dabbled into the world of online shopping. I earn and spend money right in front of my computer so expect me to become a lot paler than I am now.

I am currently 8 months pregnant, which gives me the right to lounge about and drag my weight around the house. I've only got 6 weeks more to go, so I'm living the life of a bum to the fullest. Hopefully, I'd be able to take up some short term courses in cooking, while actively pursuing my active hobbies.

Aside from my work as a freelance web content writer, I do a lot of crocheting (though not so well, as I've only been doing it regularly for a month or so) and spend most of my nights playing DOTA. Right now, I just really love making something productive and nice with my hands, whether it be a well-written article or a pretty set of baby booties. Soon I'd like to add cooking and baking to my repertoire, so between all my hobbies and being a mother, all I need now is a 48-hour day and two extra hands.
